The KIA Sorento has come a long way, now its 4th generation, the 7-seater has gotten a little bigger and has become a lot more handsome.
When it comes to styling, the Koreans keep impressing us. This range topping Sorento 2.2 CRDi 7-Seater SXL AWD 8DCT comes standard with 19-inch wheels, Dual LED headlamps, and LED rear combination lamps. We love it’s boxy but yet striking looks.
Inside the Sorento there’s plenty of space and tech. On the space front, there’s plenty of leg and headroom (with the third row a little compromised for adults). With the 3rd row of seats folded you get just over 600litres of cargo space. On the tech side the SXL gets 10.25-touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 12.3- TFT Supervision instrument cluster that incorporates blind spot monitoring using the side-view mirrors which is pretty amazing. It also gets a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats, Panoramic sunroof, Smart Cruise Control, and a Bose surround sound system.
Powering the Sorento is a 2.2-litre ‘Smartstream’ diesel engine that produces 148kW and 440Nm of torque. It sends power to all four wheels via an 8-speed dual clutch transmission. The engine and gearbox is a great combination. Though riding on 19-inch wheels you’d expect the ride to be a bit stiff but the suspension does a great job in keeping the car composed and smooth on all kinds of road surfaces.
The Sorento is good value for money considering its price, practicality, tech, and good looks when comparing it to its competitors. The range starts from R 809 900 with this top of the range-topping Sorento 2.2 CRDi 7-Seater SXL AWD 8DCT coming in at R 994 995.
