The USA is world-renowned for their ability to make a vehicle go extremely fast in a straight line, so they don’t like it when the crown for the fastest car in the world does not belong to them. A company called SSC from the States have created a car to take out the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, and they did it. Again.

You see the when the Bugatti Veyron launched, it was king of the top speed, maxing out at 407kph. However, it wasn’t there for long as the SSC Ultimate Aero came in and flew past at 411kph, making it the fastest car in the world from 2007 to 2010. Then the German brand built a faster version of the Veyron, the Super Sport, and took the crown back going at a speed of 431kph, so there is some history with these two brands.

Now though, the SSC Tuatara has achieved a top speed of 532kph! Making it the fastest production car in the world, that is absolutely insane speeds. The requirements needed to break this record is that it needs to be a street-legal production car, no fancy tyres and unreal body kits, it’s a car that you should be able to buy a car with normal stuff in it like an indicator light, aircon and cup holders stuff like that.

With that said the SSC Are making 100 of these Tuataras and will cost an eye watering $1.6 million, direct translate that into our Rand and it’s is R26 million and some change without the consideration of shipping, tax and all other things that would be included, yikes.

The crazy numbers don’t end there as this car needs to be really powerful to cut through the air at such top speeds and the SSC Tuatara itself uses a 5.9-liter, twin-turbocharged, flat-plane crank V8 engine that produces those 1,750 horsepower (about 1305kW) on E85, or 1,350 horsepower(about 1006kW) on 91 octane gasoline.

This is an incredible achievement, well done to SSC for doing it again, but I can’t help think that this victory will be short-lived and I also think that the Bugatti factory is already burning the midnight oil to create the next top speed king.

Sometimes cars can complicated but that is the beauty in it, cars have different characteristics and brands make a car in their own way that’s a reason why I love these machines. They can invoke all kinds of emotions in a person and my job is to try explain the nature of each car we get and share it with you.
