For those that loved the previous Golf 7 GTI Clubsport, you will definitely be impressed by this latest version but you will not be impressed by how this story ends.
For those that loved the previous Golf 7 GTI Clubsport, you will definitely be impressed by this latest version but you will not be impressed by how this story ends.

The Golf GTI as we know is a pretty iconic car in South Africa and the latest version is already so wildly anticipated. With that, however, Volkswagen has released another iteration of the GTI to make us salivate even more but this story does have an upsetting ending.

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport is the track-based version of the hot hatch, and to prove that this new Clubsport made it round the Nürburgring 13 seconds quicker than the standard GTI so it’s a serious step up. VW have added or modified many parts to this GTI such as an electromechanical limited-slip diff instead of the electronic XDS system of the standard GTI, new axle kinematics with increased camber at the front, plus a new control arm and wheel mounts, as well as a revised spring configuration, damper bearings and hydraulics on its rear axle.

The engine as well receives some upgrades. A new engine management software has been installed, a new turbocharger and intercooler the GTI Clubsport has 221kW and 400N.m under its hood. The 7-speed DSG gearbox has shooter gear ratios now as well, put together all these modifications and the Clubsport can get to 100kph in under 6 seconds.

The looks of the Golf GTi Clubsport are quite aggressive with a sportier front bumper that has newly designed air intakes, honeycomb grille and satin black fins. The rear we see a diffuser with two oval exhaust on either side of the bumper. The interior, however, seems similar to the standard GTI with not too much changed.

Now on a sour note, this incredible Golf GTI Clubsport is not coming to South Africa no matter how much we love the GTI. It has been said VWSA that it the new Clubsport is available for the European fuel emission level, which is honestly a sad day for South Africa, but we still keep our fingers crossed.
