With quite some bold styling.
With quite some bold styling.

At first, I thought it was a concept, only to get egg on my face when I found out it was the actual car that’s going to be put into production.

With that being said, welcome everyone to the new Hyundai Tucson. Looks like Hyundai threw away the design handbook and decided to go bold with the design of this car. The new Tucson employs Hyundai’s new “Sensuous Sportiness” design identity which is characterised by the harmony between four fundamental elements: proportion, architecture, styling and technology.

At the front, it features new Parametric Hidden Lights as well as geometrically shaped grille. Hyundai says “Thanks to state-of-the-art half-mirror lighting technology, when the DRLs are switched on, the dark chrome appearance of the grille transforms into jewel-like shapes, bringing an eye-catching element to an otherwise sleek appearance.”  On the side it gets quite interesting as it features chiseled surfaces, Hyundai really wanted to go bold with this new Tucson. At the back, it gets new wide tail lamps, integrates parametric pattern details on the rear bumper. The new Tucson also comes with three new colours, Shimmering Silver, Amazon Gray and Teal.

The new Tucson gets a completely new interior. Starting with tech, it features a new 10.25-inch AVN-T screen (with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto), and a 10.25-inch digital display. Hyundai decided to ditch physical knobs and buttons, so all AVN and heat, ventilation and air conditioning functions are controlled via touch. High-quality soft-touch materials adorn the cabin of the new Tucson. Depending on your mood it has 64 configurable colours for mood lighting with 10 levels of brightness.

When it comes to power plants, there are a few options. The hybrid version has a new 1.6-litre T-GDI (turbocharged gasoline direct injection) Smartstream engine and a 44.2 kW electric motor, with a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. It is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and available with two-wheel or four-wheel drive with a combined power output of 169 kW. Hyundai also employs 48-volt mild-hybrid technology in its turbocharged petrol models. The 1.6-litre T-GDI Smartstream has 110 kW and two-wheel drive. There’s also a 1.6-litre T-GDI Smartstream with 132 kW with optional four-wheel drive. Lastly, the 1.6-litre CRDi Smartstream has 84 kW with optional four-wheel drive.
