Cheap always has to be cheerful, and Toyota did it right when they first released the Tazz. It was an instant hit in SA, but now Toyota has had another go at the entry-level car with the newly released Toyota Agya, and I have a feeling it will do well. Here is what the new Agya is all about.
Toyota has teamed up with Daihatsu with this car as it shares a platform used by Daihatsu to create this car. The name “Agya” Sanskrit for “Fast”, and the actual car the Agya is replacing in Toyotas range is the Aygo, I wouldn’t be surprised if you guessed that due to the similarities in the name.
Toyota has put a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine into the little car that produces a measly 50kW and 89N.m, which sounds extremely small but the car only weighs 835kg so I might just be adequate for the weight. If you looking for acceleration this is most probably now the car you should be looking at a 0-100kph sprint is done in 14seconds. You can get a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic but it will cost R14 000 extra for the auto.
Inside the Ayga, aircon is standard in all models as are power steering and electric windows all round. If you opt for the top-spec models they come with a Toyota double din system, also with 2 speakers. Bluetooth is also only available on the top-spec models, An optional touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality will be available to customers as a dealer-fitted option. As far as the wheels go, 14-inch alloys are fitted to the Agya and Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) equipped with Emergency Brake Force Distribution is put in the name of safety.
All Agya models are sold with a 2-services/20 000 km service plan. A 3-year/100 000 km warranty is also provided. Customers can purchase additional service plan and warranty options via the extensive dealer network of 220.
