In early September Volkwagen SA introduced their more powerful 190 kW Amarok to the market, and now it’s officially on sale. Introduced in 2010, VW has sold over 37 000 units. The range of Amarok’s curently on sale consists of the 2.0 BiTDI 132kW and the 3.0 V6 TDI 190kW.
What separates the outgoing V6 Amarok and the current one is the power gains. The 3.0-litre V6 TDi that powers the brute of a bakkie now produces 190 kW and 580 Nm of torque. That’s 25kW and 30 Nm more than the outgoing derivative. Thanks to an over boost function, the V6 Amarok can produce 200 kW for ten seconds .All that power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Equipped with a launch control function it can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds, making it the fastest bakkie available to the SA market.
With great power comes great responsibility, that’s why the V6 is fitted with Off road ABS and stability control. Stopping power comes courtesy of four disc brakes all round. The Amarok also has the largest bin, largest loading width and the largest cabin in its class.
