Hello Internet, Welcome to the Facelift F90 BMW M5 And M5 Competition.

Almost three weeks ago BMW unveiled the facelift F90 5 Series, it was only a matter of time before the full-fat model M models showed face. So what’s changed? Well, it gets some new visual cues, and added tech to keep the model fresh.

At the front, the M5 gets bigger kidney grille which drops down further into the front apron. The new front bumper also gives the car a more chiselled look. While the large central air intake is hexagonal in shape and incorporates the oil cooler along with the radar sensor for the Active Cruise Control.

At the rear, the M5 gets a subtle redesign which includes a more angular bumper and diffuser, new L-shapes taillights, and redesigned M-specific quad exhaust tips. The 2021 model also gets 19-inch M wheels. If you opt for the M5 Competition it adds a black chrome treatment to the front grille, taillights, trunk spoiler, and badges. The M5 gains two new colours, The Brands Hatch Grey and Motegi Red metallic.

The interior gets the biggest update. You get two massive 12.3-inch screens – one for the infotainment system and one for the instrument cluster. The former houses BMW’s Live Cockpit setup with iDrive 7. You now get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and for the first time in the M5, their wireless. The new BMW M5 comes standard with automatic high-beam assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning with steering assist.

Power remains the same, 441 kW in the BMW M5 and 460 kW in the BMW M5 Competition from the twin-turbo 4.4‑litre V8 engine. Power is sent to BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive via an eight‑speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic (which comes as standard) which also includes a 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD traction modes – the latter acting as a makeshift drift mode. There are four drive modes to choose from: Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and a new Track mode. The standard M5 sprints from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.4 secs and M5 Competition does the sprint in 3.3 secs.
