Fully redesigned for the first time in nine years, the new Mazda BT-50 fuses Mazda’s Kodo-Soul of Motion design language which makes it resemble its crossover sibling, the Mazda CX-9. The Mazda BT-50 now has underpinnings of the Isuzu’s D-Max instead of Ford’s T6 platform.
Inside, the cabin has gone through a whole redesign. The whole cabin design is pure Mazda, with an exception of a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment (with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto), and climate controls which are shared with the new Isuzu D-Max.
Powering the new BT-50 is Isuzu’s trusty 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 140 kW and 450 Nm. Power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed manual or automatic transmissions, available in both 4×4 and 4×2. Though it is ever so slightly under powered compared to the old 3.2-litre five-cylinder engine, Mazda says it’ll be lighter and quicker.
