Honda has introduced the new CR-V RS e:HEV AWD in South Africa, marking the first time the SUV is available locally with the brand’s 2.0-litre self-charging hybrid powertrain. The new model also brings standard all-wheel drive, a five-seat configuration and a lower price than its predecessor.
Priced at R949,900, the new CR-V costs R91,400 less than the outgoing model. It goes on sale at selected Honda dealerships nationwide from 14 October 2026.
The launch comes during the CR-V’s anniversary month, following 30 years since the nameplate first appeared in 1995.
Hybrid power for the first time
The new CR-V uses Honda’s two-motor e:HEV hybrid system, which combines a 2.0-litre direct-injection Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery.
The petrol engine produces 106 kW and 189 Nm, while the electric motors deliver 135 kW and 335 Nm.

The system uses an e:CVT without a conventional multi-speed gearbox. It switches automatically between electric drive, hybrid drive and direct engine drive, depending on driving conditions and power requirements.
In electric drive mode, the CR-V uses battery power to drive the wheels, with the petrol engine switched off. Under stronger acceleration, the engine generates electricity to power the traction motor and charge the battery. At steady highway speeds, a lock-up clutch allows the engine to drive the wheels directly.
The battery recharges through the petrol engine and regenerative braking, meaning the CR-V does not need to be plugged into an external power source.
All-wheel drive comes standard
Honda has made its Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System standard on the new CR-V RS e:HEV.
The electronically controlled system can send torque to the rear wheels before wheelspin occurs. It also adjusts torque distribution between the front and rear axles through corners to help maintain stability and traction.
The system is designed to improve control on varying road surfaces, including wet tar and gravel, as well as on steep inclines.
Five-seat layout and RS styling
The new CR-V returns to a five-seat configuration, restoring the luggage space and practicality associated with the model.
Outside, the RS specification includes gloss-black bumper accents and dual exhaust outlets. The cabin features RS-style eco-friendly leather upholstery, white ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.
Honda has also improved noise, vibration and harshness suppression, with the quieter operation of the hybrid system contributing to the cabin experience.
Technology and safety features
The new CR-V retains several features from the outgoing petrol model, including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.2-inch TFT information display.

Other equipment includes a head-up display, LaneWatch camera, wireless phone charging and USB-C connectivity.
The Honda SENSING driver-assistance suite includes Adaptive Cruise Control, the Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation and the Collision Mitigation Braking System.
Price, warranty and service plan
The Honda CR-V RS e:HEV AWD is priced at R949,900, including VAT.
It comes with a five-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty and a five-year/90,000 km service plan. Service intervals are set at 15,000 km.
The hybrid system carries a separate eight-year/200,000 km warranty, while roadside assistance is included for three years.
With hybrid power, standard all-wheel drive and a return to five seats, the new CR-V introduces a different powertrain option to Honda’s local SUV range while lowering the starting price compared with the outgoing model.
