We explore the sporty looking Hyundai Tucson N-Line

The Tucson N-Line is what the range truly needed.
The Tucson N-Line is what the range truly needed.

Hyundai recently introduced the N Line model to the latest Tucson line-up, enhancing both the exterior and interior with sporty design features.

When it comes to aesthetics, it boasts a darker grille, a redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes, body-coloured side skirts, sporty 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a larger rear spoiler, a faux rear diffuser, dual exhaust outlets, and N Line badging throughout. The distinctive exterior elements set this new derivative apart within the Tucson range.

Stepping inside, the premium cabin of the Tucson showcases sporty leather/suede seats with red stitching and piping, complemented by an ‘N’ badge on the backrest. Model-specific details include fabric door and dashboard inserts with red accents, a red-stitched steering wheel featuring ‘N’ badging, and an ‘N’ gear lever found in N models like the Kona N. The Tucson N Line’s interior is comfortably appointed and spacious, offering a pleasant experience for both front and rear occupants. Other notable standard features include: heated and cooled front seats, heated steering wheel, and radar guided cruise control. However, Hyundai should consider updating the outdated touchscreen, which detracts from the overall upscale interior.

Unlike the full-fledged N models that receive performance and mechanical enhancements, the N Line package primarily focuses on cosmetic upgrades. The Tucson N Line retains its power from a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine generating 137kW and 416Nm. Paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, power is distributed to all wheels through Hyundai’s HTRAC AWD system. During our stint, we managed to consistently best the claimed 7,4 L/100 km fuel consumption getting as low as 6.5 L/100 km. This is good news for those looking to spend less time at the pumps.

The Tucson maintains its impressive performance with a smooth ride quality, a lively yet fuel-efficient turbodiesel engine, and a desirable AWD system. It boasts an impressive range, complemented by a seamless 8-speed automatic gearbox. The inclusion of assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist enhances the comfort of long-distance driving.

At R799,900, the Hyundai Tucson N Line emerges as a stylish addition to the Tucson line-up, offering a compelling option for drivers who prioritize sporty design elements and a well-rounded driving experience.
