BMW has revealed pricing for the updated 5 Series for the South African market. The facelift was revealed on the 27th of May this year.
On local launch, it will be available in three petrol derivatives, and one diesel. The first petrol option is the 530i which is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 185kW and 350 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims the 530i will achieve a 0 – 100 km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.
The second petrol engine is the more potent M550i sedan. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 that produces 390 kW and 750 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic. 0 – 100 km/h sprint is achieved in a blistering level 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (we’re sure it can do more but, its governed at that speed).
The third petrol engine is the Big Daddy, the M5 Competition. Under the hood is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 460 kW and 750 Nm of torque. BMW claims 0 – 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h when fitted with the M Drivers Package.
Lastly, it’s the oil burner, the 520d. The 520d is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 140 kW and 400 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic. Too speed 235 km/h.
