The word Gazoo sound like the kind of word toddlers scream out before jumping in to the swimming pool. However, in Toyota-Land this word means something really radical and special, where Toyota cars go get modified to their limits! Now Toyota have given the brand new Yaris the Gazoo Racing treatment. Looking at the performance figures, three words really come up for me – Super Pocket Rocket.
What Toyota have done here is absolutely incredible. Just some facts about this machine: a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces… wait for it… 192kW and 360Nm from a three-cylinder engine – insane!!! It also has a traditional Six-speed manual gearbox. Performance figures: the car will get to 100km/h in 5.5s according to the factory and can reach a top speed of 230km/h.
The trick with this car is that it is very light, weighing just 1280kg; accompanied with an All-wheel drive system making sure that all the power is used. Parts of the body is made of Aluminum and some parts are made from carbon fiber so the weight can stay as low as possible. All these things make for an exceptional little car, but the real question is will we get it here in South Africa? Well so far all that has been said is it is currently under consideration for South Africa – so keep your fingers crossed.
