Meet The BMW 4 Series With The Controversial Grille And All

Welcome everyone to the new BMW 4 Series, with all its grille glory.
Welcome everyone to the new BMW 4 Series, with all its grille glory.

BMW has done it again sending shock waves, tremors and whirlwinds to throughout the motoring industry with probably the most controversial design. The new BMW 4 series is now ready for launch and oh yes the front end looks exactly like the concept.

Let’s leave the elephant in the room for last and let’s talk engines. The range-topping M440i will have a six-cylinder petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, all that together you get 275kW/500Nm pumping out the engine and a 0-100 time of 4.5 seconds. There will also be a 420i and a 430i, both will have four-cylinder engines with that there will be diesel versions of those two models as well.

All models will include an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, pay more money and BMW will give you a Sport Steptronic 8 speed. The 4 is geared to be a more dynamic car than the 3 series as it has a chassis designed for performance so you don’t feel like it’s just a two-door 3 series.

Inside the 4 series, however, looks very familiar to the newer BMW models we have come to know. We get the digital instruments cluster accompanied by the 10.25 infotainment screen packed with all kinds of functions that BMW has to offer for their latest models.

The exterior is where BMW really did the work especially the front, we find probably the longest grille fitted to any car it stretches from the top to the bottom of the midsection of the front end. BMW now offers standard LED headlights with the 4 series but the laser headlights remain and option. The whole car from the side view has very sleek and smooth lines leading to the rear end, there we see BMW took pages out of the 8 series rear end but still very elegant and sporty in its design.

Model variants for the South African market, available from the fourth quarter of 2020:

  • BMW 420i Coupe
  • BMW 420d Coupe
  • BMW 440i xDrive Coupe

We can officially put to bed the discussion on if BMW will keep the grille or that it’s all just a concept, they have and it’s was never just a concept. Love it or hate it you got to respect BMW for going through with it.
