Deemed the “S-Class of SUVs” the Mercedes Benz GLS is like luxury on wheels and its also a spaceship on wheels because it is quite big. The latest version that has just been brought to SA pushes the envelope to a new level, we have the info on what you can expect on the new Mercedes-Benz GLS.
Well, we start with the versions we will receive in South Africa. There is the GLS 400d 4MATIC and the GLS 580 4MATIC. The GLS 400d gets its power from a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 243kW and 700N.m, all that power through a 9G-tronic automatic gearbox. The GLS 580 will also feature EQ Boost Hybrid technology to bump the power in the twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine, the result is that will have 360kW and 700N.m and a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Mercedes-Benz has made the new GLS 60mm longer which increases the interior space, which is very important in a car of this calibre. The 3rd-row seats are electrically operated and you can opt for the optional Rear Comfort Package, which adds luxury head restraints as well as a removable 7-inch Android tablet with its own docking station as well as a wireless charging station. The package also includes five-zone automatic climate control for the rear seats. Super luxurious stuff.
There are also, (as you would imagine), quiet a few optional extras you could get on the GLS. You can get 21-inch wheels if you so like, there is an Innovation package and if you want to be part of the future semi-autonomous driving systems are available for option as well.
The Mercedes-Benz GLS is on sale as of November 2020 and the prices are as follows:
Mercedes-Benz GLS 400d – R1 842 000
